13th Annual Wonder Not! Bread Festival
This hot, dry summer has been hell on gardeners and bakers alike, but it’s given us a bumper wheat crop! Four Star Farms in Northfield report record yields of all the grains they mill for us. With the Fall Equinox arriving, it’s time to give thanks AND to plant again for next year. Seasons spin, so seeds rise up on stalks & ripen & sprout & are re-buried again. We steal a few for our bread, in between the bird flocks.
Sunday, September 18 from 11am to 5pm at Hungry Ghost Bread at 62 State St in Northampton, join us for our annual Wonder Not! Bread Festival, including vendors, music, puppet parade, and, of course, the most local bread possible, right out of the oven!
Beth Fairservis & The Pachamama Puppets will lead the Noontime Parade along with the Expandable Brass Band! Volunteers needed & wanted to be inside puppets, to pass out bread samples & wheat seeds, to stroll along & saunter en masse down Center, Main & State Streets!
Food vendors will include: Chase Hill Farm Cheese, Red Fire Farm, New City Brewery, Beaumont Berries, Behrens Boards, Invisible Cities Apiary, Northampton Olive Oil, Full Moon Ghee & more!
See the unveiling of Northampton’s newest mural, a pagan fresco celebrating wheat by internationally-recognized local artist, Emma Kohlmann.
Free music will begin at 1pm & will include: Jeff Lewis (of Sun Parade), Stephen Katz (just back from RioCello!), and of course, the strumming flour-caked baker himself.
Free admission! Gluten-intolerants tolerated! Persephone-worshippers embraced!
Bread is the spirit made flesh, but you do have to mix it & bake it first…
